Same-Day Crowns in Minneapolis with CEREC

A CEREC crown is designed, milled and bonded in a single appointment. We scan the tooth digitally, mill your crown from a solid ceramic block in the office, and cement it the same day — so there is no temporary crown, no second numbing appointment, and no two-week wait.

A broken molar used to mean two appointments, two injections and two weeks eating carefully around a temporary crown that could pop off at dinner. It does not have to any more.

Lakeshore Dental uses CEREC, a digital scanner and in-office milling unit that produces a finished ceramic crown while you are in the chair. Dr. Ali prepares the tooth, scans it, designs the crown on screen, mills it, and bonds it — in one appointment.

Same-day crowns are a good fit for a cracked or fractured tooth, a large old filling that is failing, a tooth that has just had a root canal, or a worn-down molar that needs full coverage.

What happens

  1. Digital scan

A small camera captures the tooth. No putty impression trays.

  2. Design on screen

Dr. Ali shapes the crown digitally and matches it to your bite and your neighbouring teeth.

  3. Milled in the office

The ceramic block is milled while you wait — usually around 15 minutes.

  4. Fitted and bonded

We check the fit and bite, polish, and bond it. You leave with the final crown.

Common questions

How long does a same-day crown appointment take?

Plan on roughly two hours from start to finish for a single crown. That replaces two visits of about an hour each, plus two weeks with a temporary.

Is a CEREC crown as strong as a lab crown?

Modern milled ceramic is designed for full-strength chewing surfaces and is widely used for molars. Dr. Ali will tell you if your specific tooth is better served by a lab-fabricated crown.

Does it look natural?

The block is shade-matched to your surrounding teeth and stained and glazed in the office before it is bonded.

What does a crown cost?

Cost depends on the tooth and your plan. We are a PPO preferred provider for many dental plans and will give you a written estimate with your out-of-pocket amount before we begin. Call (612) 601-8993 for an estimate.

Can you do a same-day crown at an emergency visit?

Often, yes — a fractured or badly decayed tooth can sometimes be crowned the same day. Call us and describe what happened.
